Enforcing Immigration Laws and Preventing Sanctuary Cities

Our immigration laws must be enforced. I support President Trump’s executive order punishing sanctuary cities which forbid local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.  In 2017, I supported the passage of a law that declared any ordinance, policy or order by a Mississippi governmental entity that attempts to limit its employees from communicating or cooperating with federal agencies to verify immigration status and seeks to grant any person the right of lawful presence or status within the state, void from adoption. However, because of continued attempts to evade and avoid the application of immigration law and to prevent communication and cooperation with federal authorities on immigration related matters, we must do more.  Mechanisms must be put in place to withhold state dollars and impose other punitive measures to prevent the continued deterioration of the rule of law and to protect our citizens.
